Big Bike Riders Children’s Foundation wishes to express our gratitude to the entire Peterson’s family and organization, especially, Mr. P, Ace, Drew and Dirk. We were involved in producing the Key West Poker Run Bike Show associated with the Phil Peterson’s Poker Run for the last 11 years. It has been our distinct honor. We could not have had a better run with this absolutely wonderful event supporting great charities. The BBRA/BBRCF crew has varied over the years. Each team member, whether they were a member of BBRA or BBRCF and/or a volunteer, did the most amazing job. It’s quite a task to be on Duval Street in the host sun and high humidity and be able to do it for over 15+ hours. You guys have been great. We could never have done it without so many amazing people. They all knew their efforts would benefit kids and our team gave of themselves unselfishly for 11 years.
Over the years we judged over 1500 entries in over 22 classes. Not an easy task. The bikes were judged fairly by a team of very competent judges. Many were motorcycle enthusiasts with years of riding and knowing what makes a good bike outstanding. Many were builders themselves that offered to take a class and judge it. They did the most amazing job. We judged bikes on up to six various criteria on a 100-point must system. We would have the same judge judge all the bikes in one class so there was consistency in the scoring. The ladies that handled the show registration were absolutely the best. Doing their level best to deal with some bike owners who didn’t even know what they were riding. These ladies would seek out an expert and get their opinion so as not to mis-categorize a bike. The show accounting was truly a big effort so that at the end of the show we had the correct number of entries that matched the money collected. Again, these gals did the most amazing job, especially Kristi and Sandy. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my wife, Maryann. She was with me for all 11 years. At the end of the day she was virtually wiped out. We had our difficulties but charged through them and made a great event even better by being a competent group with one purpose in mind; do a great job and they all did. Thanks to Stuart, my partner, for his help and guidance along with one of our original partners, Christopher. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
To the sales and management staffs at both Peterson’s North and South stores – Thank you. We had a great run. But all good things have to come to an end at some point in time. It has become necessary to turn this event over to a good friend and his organization to carry the torch going forward. We were only the caretakers over the last 11 years. It’s now up to Jorge and Carol Carrasco of Road Rage Magazine to bear that responsibility starting with the 2015 edition. Jorge, Carol and staff will do the show justice and will execute with integrity and honor. I pass this event on to your capable hands and wish you only the best. Thank you and enjoy the event as 1000’s do. Be safe and ride responsibly.
